Change

No matter what stage you are in life, change is difficult. I remember when my youngest transitioned from a crib to a toddler bed, she ended up sleeping on the floor by the door I think because she wanted something against her to keep her safe. Or perhaps she was aftraid to fall so she'd rather stay close to the floor.

For me, change is mainly exciting. It's an opportunity to learn something new or to experience new things. Of course there are changes that you don't necessarily welcome, like getting old enough to become a member of AARP but what can you do? There isn't anything you can do about getting old unless there really is a fountain of yourth somewhere but you can certainly change the way you think about the change.

Today's prompts were "change" and "antique".  I think the coolest job would be to think of ways to upcycle or repurpose old things. I would love to find an old grand piano (I would do my best to see if I can get it to play first, beause , yeah, it's a grand!) and turn it into something else like a bookshelf like the one I drew or turn an upright into a desk or a cabinet. Wouldn't that be fun? Of course, I don't have the skills to do that but that has never stopped me. LOL.

And do you notice the piano music to Bach's Goldberg Variations? Bach wrote the Aria in G major and 30 variations based on the same chord and for the most part the same baseline. Talk about being stuck in a rut. But the absolute magic of these pieces is that each tells a slightly story. I wish I knew enough about music theory to really impress you about what a genius Bach was but instead, I'll let you just listen.

I just saw this! This is not the "gold standard" of these variations. But I love Alexandre Tharaud! Unfortunately, the recording is not yet available on iTunes, but you get a glimpse of the Variations.

And if you really want to listen to the "master" play, you can listen to the Glen Gould version here. I think they are beautiful, technically superb, but I've never been a huge favorite of his playing. Blasphemous, I know!

I hope I can always build something new. How about you?

    1. Thanks, Ann Marie! I've often considered using a service like Zazzle to create phone cases or journal covers with some of my art.. Will have to check into it!
